The City of Philadelphia is pleased to launch our eighth year of celebrating Immigrant Heritage Month! This year’s theme is “Stories Untold: Amplifying Immigrant Voices in Philadelphia.”
Immigrant Heritage Month uses the power of storytelling to highlight immigrant communities and their personal experiences. Throughout the month, the Office of Immigrant Affairs will promote many community events, including musical performances, educational programming, business information sessions, food tastings, film screenings, and health resources.
This national celebration offers residents the opportunity to explore their heritage and celebrate the shared diversity that forms the unique story of our country. It’s also a chance to highlight the important role of immigration in the United States and recognize the many contributions made by immigrants.
Join us for a kickoff press event with Managing Director Adam Thiel and Amy Eusebio, Executive Director of the Office of Immigrant Affairs. This event will offer a preview of the month’s programming and feature a cultural performance.
VietLead will screen their documentary, Taking Root, which amplifies the stories of immigrants who resettled in Philadelphia after the wars in Southeast Asia. It highlights the intergenerational impact of structural violence and demonstrates the power of Southeast Asians in resisting and rebuilding in America.
The event will highlight restaurants across Philadelphia that serve African and other immigrant cuisine. It will also feature a family festival in LOVE Park from June 22–23. See the African Restaurant Week website for a full list of participating restaurant partners and event programming.
Join the Pew Charitable Trust’s Philadelphia research and policy initiative as they present findings from new research on immigration. Pew’s research tracks how the population of foreign-born residents has changed and includes data on race, ethnicity, country of origin, and destination.
