Service overview
You need this license to perform inspections or testing on existing water-based fire protection systems.
If you only have a standard Fire Suppression Systems Worker License, you can certify newly installed systems but not previously installed systems.
Fire suppression workers must work for a contractor. This license does not authorize you to operate a business.
The Department of Licenses and Inspections (L&I) issues this license.
Related licenses
Licensed fire suppression apprentices can perform work under a registered apprenticeship program and under the supervision of a person possessing the required fire suppression systems worker license.

Certification
Specialty Fire Suppression Workers must show proof of successful completion of the ASSE 15010 Water-Based Fire Protection Certification administered by the American Society of Sanitary Engineers and possess the standard Fire Suppression Systems Worker license.

Cost
If you renew your license more than 60 days after the due date, you will be charged 1.5% of the license fee for each month since the license expired.

You can apply for this license online using eCLIPSE or in person at the Permit and License Center.
Online
Applications are reviewed within five business days.
If the application isn’t approved, you will receive an email stating what is missing or required.
In person
L&I can review most applications while you wait.
Renewal requirements
You must renew this license every three years. You can renew online through eCLIPSE or in person at the Permit and License Center.
To renew your license, you must:
- Show proof of a current ASSE 15010 Water-Based Fire Protection Certification.
- Have a valid Fire Suppression Systems Worker License.
