Shared Safety Philadelphia

Mission, vision, and approach

Mission

Shared Safety is a city-wide, coordinated community response to relational violence.

We started in 2015 to respond to a need we saw across health and human services agencies. In the past, relational violence has mostly been addressed through the justice system. And health and human services often aren’t created with relational violence in mind. As a result, these systems often aren’t prepared to support survivors of relational violence and existing resources don’t meet the needs of our community.

Still, these systems interact with survivors on a daily basis.

Shared Safety works to strengthen our community’s response to relational violence. We bring stakeholders together to improve communication and coordination. Through this effort, we can identify gaps in systems and work together to address them.

Vision

We envision a safer and healthier Philadelphia where the City and local health and human services agencies will coordinate resources and responses to relational violence.

Approach

Shared Safety follows a collective impact model. This model acknowledges that any one program or organization cannot work alone to solve social problems. Instead, it relies on collaboration to achieve lasting change.

Our coordinated response expands our capacity to protect and serve our community. We’re also working to change the social norms that perpetuate violence. Through our collective efforts, we’re transforming our community.
