How to apply

Serve Philadelphia is committed to equity and diversity. We seek the fresh perspectives of candidates with varied life and work experiences.

Serve Philadelphia VISTA positions are entry-level, meaning that there are opportunities for growth within the role.

Studies have shown that marginalized communities—including women, LGBTQ+ people, and people of color—are less likely to apply to positions unless they meet every listed qualification. However, we deem all experience as relevant, and we encourage marginalized applicants from non-traditional career paths to consider applying.

When the application cycle opens, apply online.

Complete our interest form to be notified when applications open.

If you're accepted, you'll attend a screening interview with Serve Philadelphia VISTA staff.

This interview will ensure that you are a good fit for the program. You’ll then attend an interview with sites that accept your application.

After your site interviews, complete the candidate feedback form.

On the form, you can share whether you’re interested in any of the positions for which you interviewed. You can also give feedback on the interview process.

The Serve Philadelphia VISTA staff uses your feedback and each hiring supervisor’s feedback to complete a placement matching process.

If you're selected for service, you'll receive an offer from the Serve Philadelphia VISTA Corps staff.

Apply to become a full-year VISTA

To apply for the full-year VISTA program, you must submit:

  • A brief essay about you and your reasons for applying to become a VISTA.
  • Your five preferred VISTA positions, along with a description of why you would be a good fit for each position.
  • Your resume.

To apply for the VISTA leader program, you must submit:
