Extended Day / Extended Year

Providing free, quality care and enrichment at 25 schools: before/after school, during winter/spring breaks, and for 6 weeks in the summer.

About

Mayor Parker’s Extended Day/Extended Year (EDEY) pilot program includes 20 district-run schools and five charter schools. EDEY schools provide free care:

  • Before and after school.
  • Over winter and spring break.
  • During six weeks of summer break.

EDEY schools support the well-being of students and their families. They offer:

  • Safe, fun, and engaging learning environments.
  • Opportunities for students to explore their interests and develop skills critical to success.
  • Help for parents and caregivers who have work or other obligations that extend beyond the regular school day.

The Mayor's Office of Education partners with the Office of Children and Families, the School District of Philadelphia, and participating charter schools to offer this program. It is jointly funded by the City and the school district.
