About
This project will transform Woodland Avenue between the VA Medical Center Driveway and 42nd Street into a safe, multimodal corridor for all users. Currently, Woodland is part of the City’s High Injury Network (HIN) due to high rates of traffic deaths and serious injuries. The corridor infrastructure needs improvements to accommodate people walking, biking, and riding transit.
The project includes the addition of:
- Two new traffic signals at the 40th Street Trolley Portal/The Woodlands and at Chester Avenue, along with painted crosswalks.
- A two-way raised bikeway on Woodland’s south side, next to the historic brick sidewalk.
- New trees, landscaping, and street lighting along the corridor.
The first phase of the project is a short-term bike lane scheduled for Fall 2024 completion. The second phase is a long-term bikeway, which is currently in design.
