2026

The Boulevard today

The following projects are completed or will be completed by 2026:

  • Addition of automated speed cameras
  • Improvements at the Summerdale/Adams intersection and Southampton Road intersection
  • Improvements to crossover lanes (Cottman to Red Lion)
  • Addition of SEPTA Direct Bus B
  • Installation of Business Access and Transit (BAT) Lanes (Bustleton to City Line)
2029

The Boulevard tomorrow

The following traffic safety and SEPTA service improvements will be completed along the full length of the Boulevard by 2029:

  • Pedestrian crossing signals and pedestrian islands
  • Sidewalks, crosswalks, and curb extensions
  • Bike lanes
  • Traffic signals
  • Lane changes and Michigan left turns
  • Bus-only lanes and bus stop improvements

The work will also include aesthetic improvements to the Boulevard, such as trees and landscaping.

2040

The Boulevard reimagined

A new study will consider updates to the road design and transit services. This work will change the look and feel of the Boulevard by 2040.

The following road design options are under consideration:

  • A partially capped expressway with four sunken expressway lanes (50 mph) and two local outer lanes (25 mph).
  • A neighborhood boulevard with six inner lanes (25 mph) and four local outer lanes (25 mph).

Possible transit services include:

  • Bus rapid transit (BRT).
  • Light rail transit (LRT).
  • Subway.
