Market Street and JFK Boulevard complete streets project

A Complete Streets project

About

Market Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard (JFK Boulevard) are critical corridors that serve diverse destinations, people, and uses. Over the last decade, the City and its partners made the following improvements to portions of these streets:

  • Parking-separated bike lanes
  • Bike signals at Market Street on 16th and 20th streets
  • Planters, maintained by Center City District (CCD)
  • Bus-only lanes and a bus signal at 15th and Market streets

These changes reduced speeding, improved traffic safety, increased safe biking practices, and improved bus travel times, but there's still more work to do. This new project will:

  • Replace the plastic flex posts with more permanent materials.
  • Upgrade bus boarding areas to give bus riders a safer, faster, and more dignified experience.
  • Provide more and improved planters to green and beautify the corridor, in partnership with CCD.

This project will also add a high-quality bicycle connection on 20th Street between Market Street and JFK Boulevard.
