Luzerne Street traffic safety project

A Complete Streets project

About

From 2019 to 2023, Luzerne Street (between American and M streets) had 83 crashes. There were 206 people involved, 11 of whom died or were seriously injured. This includes two people who were walking.

This stretch of Luzerne Street was identified as a priority for multiple reasons:

  • It's part of Philadelphia’s High Injury Network, the 12% of streets that see 80% of all traffic deaths and serious injuries.
  • It connects residents to parks, schools, civic institutions, jobs, and shopping centers.
  • It needs basic quality-of-life improvements like fresh pavement, new crosswalks, and upgraded curb ramps.
