City of Philadelphia Releases Information for 2016 Philadelphia International Cycling Classic
PHILADELPHIA – The City of Philadelphia, through the Office of Special Events, has released road closure and no parking zone details for the 2016 Philadelphia International Cycling Classic—the annual single-day cycling race taking place on Sunday, June 5.
The Cycling Classic dates back to 1985 and is considered one of America’s most prestigious international cycling events.
Both the men’s and women’s races will take riders on a 12.3 mile course looping through some of Philadelphia’s favorite neighborhoods and finishing atop the famed Manayunk Wall.
Race Day Information
The 2016 Philadelphia Cycling Classic takes place on June 5, rain or shine. The Men’s UCI 1.1. Race will start at 8 AM. The Women’s WorldTour Race will follow, starting at 12:30 PM.
The event is free and open to the public with viewing areas at the following locations:
Main Street (Manayunk)
Lemon Hill (Fairmount Park)
Midvale Avenue near Kelly Drive
Kelly Drive from Midvale Avenue to Sedgley Drive
“The Wall” on Lyceum Avenue

Road Closures
To accommodate the race course for cyclists, a process of gradual road closures along the route and in key sections of the Manayunk neighborhood will begin on Friday, June 3rd. The full set of closures on the course are scheduled to be implemented by 7:00AM on Sunday, June 5th. The full extent of these closures will be in place until approximately 5:00PM on Sunday, June 5th. Scheduled road closures for this event include:
- Ridge Ave. – School House Lane to Hermit St.
- Main St. – Ridge Ave. to Green Lane
- Levering St. – Main St. to Tower St.
- Cresson St. – Levering St. to Cotton St.
- Lyceum Ave. – Tower St. to Mitchell St.
- Pechin St. – Green Lane to Roxborough Ave.
- Roxborough Ave. – Mitchell St. to Terrace St.
- Manayunk Ave. – Roxborough Ave. to Ridge Ave.
The entire length of Kelly Drive will be completely closed to all traffic (Park Trolleys included) and parking.
There will be no vehicle access (including trolleys) to the Lemon Hill, Mount Pleasant, and Ormiston Mansions. Residents of these houses will not be permitted to drive vehicles on roads of the race course after 6:30 AM.
There will be no vehicle access to the Dairy and Edgely ball fields.
Vehicles (including bicycles) will not be permitted to enter the park at Dauphin Drive.
Vehicles entering at Diamond Drive will be given access up to Reservoir Drive only.
Vehicles entering the park at Oxford Drive will be permitted as far as Smith Playground only.
Sedgley Drive will be closed at Girard Avenue. Brewery Hill Drive will be closed at Girard Avenue.
Poplar Drive (Girard Avenue traffic) will be closed at Poplar Street, with all traffic directed east on Poplar Street.
There will be no access to the Park from Hunting Park Avenue, the Roosevelt Expressway or Midvale Avenue.
There will be no parking on Waterworks Drive, or Lemon Hill.
ADDITIONAL CLOSURES:
In order to allow for set-up of the race course, the following road closures will be in effect on the dates/times listed:
Lyceum Ave. from Manayunk Ave. to Pechin St. – Friday, June 3rd from 8:00 AM to Sunday, June 5th, until the conclusion of bike race/clean up.
Lyceum/Levering Ave. from Cresson St. to Pechin St. – Friday, June 3rd from 2:00PM to Sunday, June 5th until the conclusion of the bike race/clean up.
Delays can be expected and motorists are advised to avoid the area by using alternate routes, and allow for extra driving time in the areas near the race course before and during the race. Please refrain from double-parking, which creates congestion, limits traffic flow, and is illegal.
No Parking Zones
During the Philadelphia International Cycling Classic, the following blocks will be in the “No Parking Zone”, and all vehicles must be relocated beginning 8:00 AM on Friday, June 3rd thru 8:00 PM on Sunday, June 5th. Any vehicles remaining on site during this time will be towed:
Lyceum/Levering Ave. from Cresson St. to Pechin St.
Manayunk Ave. from Ridge Ave. to Roxborough Ave.
Pechin St. from Lyceum Ave. to Roxborough Ave.
Roxborough Ave. from Pechin St. to Manayunk Ave.
Beginning 3:00 AM Sunday, June 5th thru 8:00 PM Sunday, June 5th, all vehicles must be relocated from the following block. Any vehicles remaining on site during this time will be towed:
Main St. from Ridge Ave. to Levering Ave.
Public Transportation
Due to race-related street closures, SEPTA Routes 9, 27, 32, 35, 38, 61, 65, 124/125, K & R will be detoured from its normal routes through Kelly Drive, Manayunk and Roxborough area beginning at 5:30 AM on Sunday, June 5 through 5:00 PM.
