PHILADELPHIA— Mayor Jim Kenney has issued the following statement regarding the planned distribution of basic education funding proposed by Governor Tom Wolf for the upcoming fiscal year.

“Governor Wolf’s distribution of basic education funding is an important step towards providing an equitable education for all Pennsylvania children. The $25 million funding allocation for the restoration of the charter school reimbursement program is particularly necessary in stabilizing traditional public schools, absent an equitable funding formula and adequate funding. The current state system creates an unnecessarily competitive educational landscape that pits children in traditional and charter schools against one another. I urge legislators to work together to realize a FY17 budget that implements a fair funding formula and full charter reimbursements in order to provide the essential resources our children need to reach their full potential.”
