The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) leads planning and policy development to prepare for and handle risks and hazards in the City of Philadelphia.
We have many plans in place which prepare OEM and our public safety partners for various responses to natural and human-caused hazards, extreme weather, large events that deal with crowd safety, and incidents that require shelter-in-place and evacuations.
But those plans are only as effective as the people involved.
Our plans not only include city government, public safety, and partner agencies, but you, the public.
Knowing how to prepare and what to do in case of an emergency, regardless of the size and impact on everyday life, is key.
That is why we are producing a series of videos titled “Part of the Plan” to be published monthly.
We’ll look at aspects of our plans, like our Winter Weather and Mass Care and Shelter Plan for example, to introduce and give you insight to YOUR part of the plan. The series will highlight the plans and programs you can follow to keep your family and community safe.
The “Part of the Plan” video series is another way we are reaching out to you, so you can become emergency ready. Our READYHome and READYBusiness presentations bring emergency preparedness to your block. ReadyPhiladelphia delivers traffic, transit, and emergency information to your phone or inbox.
Philadelphia is the City of Neighborhoods.
House by house, block by block, neighborhood by neighborhood, we can become a more emergency prepared and resilient city.
But it takes your part, the public, for our plans to be most effective.
You are the Public in Public Safety.
