We anticipate the Democratic National Convention will bring about 50,000 visitors to Philadelphia this July, and 57 of them have already arrived! But, they’re not delegates or reporters – they’re donkeys!
The “Donkeys Around Town” art exhibit of fiberglass donkeys is now up for viewing, and these four-legged friends will stick around until late August.
In total, 57 fiberglass donkeys decorated by local artists have landed in different spots around the city. The donkeys are a way for Philadelphians to celebrate the historic convention and for residents and visitors alike to explore parts of the city that they may not see on a typical day.
The sculptures represent all 50 states, Washington D.C., five U.S. territories, and Americans living abroad.
A map of the donkey locations can be found here so get out and find them! Each one is a great photo-op so don’t forget to tag your Instagram and Twitter pictures with #DonkeysAroundTown!
If you’re up for a challenge, the Donkeys will be the subject of a scavenger hunt contest around Philly during the convention starting on July 21st, too!
The contest will be held via the app, Scavify, free to download for Apple and Android users. The app will request a location check-in, ask users questions at certain locations, and give folks an opportunity to take fun photos with the donkeys.
There are two grand prize drawings that scavengers will be entered to win after they complete at least 30 tasks:
- A two-night stay at the Hyatt at The Bellevue courtesy of Visit Philadelphia with restaurant gift cards for each night.
- “The Ultimate Philadelphia Sports Experience” which includes two tickets to a game during the 2016-2017 sports season for each of Philadelphia’s major sports teams.
The scavenger hunt starts July 21st and runs through July 28th so use the locations map to start planning your route now!
Throughout the summer, check out #DonkeysAroundTown to see which donkeys your fellow Philadelphians have found – and be sure to share your own photos on Instagram and Twitter.
