Cherokee Street Bridge Rehabilitation Project

The Cherokee Street Bridge built in 1960, is a 220 foot, four-span, multi-girder prestressed I-Beam bridge crossing over Valley Green Road. The project is within the Chestnut Hill Historic District.

This Department of Streets rehabilitation project will:

  • Demolish and remove the existing barriers, sidewalks, deck, and beams
  • Perform concrete repairs to the piers and abutments that support the beams
  • Construct new beams, deck, and sidewalk along with a barrier to meet current safety standards
  • Improve drainage infrastructure

Cherokee Street, between Springfield Avenue and Willow Grove Avenue, will be closed to vehicular, bicyclist, and pedestrian traffic while the Streets Department rehabilitates the bridge.
