We thank all community members for your valuable input on the Aramingo Avenue Safety Project. From Summer 2023 to Summer 2024, the Office of Multimodal Planning (OMP), in collaboration with the community organizations in the area, connected with 1,157 community members and facilitated more than 230 conversations. The project surveys received 388 responses in Phase 2 and 182 responses in Phase 3.
Residents rated the proposed safety improvements with an average score of 4.5 out of 5. They also gave an average rating of 4.3 out of 5 to indicate that the plan successfully incorporated their feedback from Phase 2. Additionally, 153 community members expressed interest in extending the project to Lehigh Avenue.
The engagement helped the project team arrive at the following design features for the redesign of Aramingo Avenue (Allegheny to Wheatsheaf):
- Leading Pedestrian Intervals (LPIs) and dedicated left-turn phases and phases at major intersections
- Center concrete median (with left turn lanes at intersections)
- One-way sidewalk-level bike lanes in both directions
- Corner bump-outs and/or raised crosswalks at intersecting streets to slow vehicles turning to and from intersecting streets onto Aramingo Avenue
- Trees, bus shelters, and other street furniture to improve the pedestrian environment
- Speed cushions throughout the corridor
Additionally, the project will incorporate an extension to Lehigh Avenue, pending funding availability. This section of the project (Allegheny-Lehigh) will incorporate sidewalk-level bike lanes, new street trees, and safety improvements at intersections.
The project is not yet funded and has not been engineered. Design features may change as the project moves forward.
