Philadelphia Police Department

What we do

The Philadelphia Police Department (PPD) is led by Police Commissioner Kevin J. Bethel.

The PPD is one of the oldest municipal police agencies in the United States. We are the fourth-largest police force and the sixth-largest non-federal law enforcement agency in the country, consisting of:

  • Over 6,000 sworn officers.
  • Over 800 civilian employees.
  • Six police divisions.
  • 20 police districts.

Honor, integrity, and service are the core values that drive all of our work. The PPD serves over 1.5 million residents in Philadelphia County with the mission to make Philadelphia one of the safest cities in the country.
