GENERAL DEFINITION
This is park ranger work at the advanced performance level for the Department of Parks and Recreation Park Ranger Program. Employees in this class are responsible for patrolling Fairmount Park grounds to enforce park rules and regulations. Work is performed under the director of an Urban Park Ranger Supervisor.

TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
Patrols park grounds by foot, bicycle or vehicle and observes activities in assigned stations to ensure compliance with park rules and regulations; issues code violation notices and/or warnings for violation of park rules; issues parking violations to vehicles parked illegally on park property, educates park patrons of rules and regulations governing the use of Fairmount Park; prepares and administers informational and recreational programs for the benefit of park visitors and community groups.
Maintains accurate reports related to Park Ranger operations, including incident reports and weekly statistical reports; attends staff, Parks and Recreation Commission, community and intra-agency meetings related to the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
· American Heart Association First aid and CPR standards and practices
· patrolling techniques and procedures used in park enforcement
· natural resource management and conservation principles

· basic computer knowledge
· principles and practices of customer service
SKILL IN:
· demonstrating cultural competence in interacting with park visitors
· maneuvering off road vehicles
· the use and application of personal computers and standard software packages used for word processing, data base manipulation and the preparation of spreadsheets.
ABILITY TO:
· apply and enforce laws, departmental policies, rules and regulations governing park and recreation areas.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates for this class will be reviewed based on training and experience requirements as approved on 10/20.)
EDUCATION:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
AND
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Two years of experience as an Urban Park Ranger 1 or equivalent experience for a park system.
OR
Any equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES
Possession of First Aid/CPR Certification at the time of appointment and during tenure as an Urban Park Ranger 2.
Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operators license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment if required by work assignment.
