ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN TRAINEE
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is advanced training level technical instrumentation and electronic equipment work. Employees in this class develop the knowledge and skills necessary for advancement in the Electronic Technician series in the Electronic Equipment and Instrumentation specialization. Installing, maintaining, testing and adjusting a wide variety of meters, gauges, and other recording, regulating and controlling instruments is a large part of the work. Significant to the work is the maintenance and repair of digital electronic and instrumentation equipment within a digital computer automated processing system. Work differs from the next higher-level class in this series in that the employee assists higher level technicians and supervisors during complex instrumentation and electronic equipment maintenance and repair assignments. Work is performed under the supervision of a technical superior and may involve disagreeable aspects.
ALLOCATING FACTORS: (The following conditions must be met for a position to be allocated to this class.)
1. Employees must perform advanced training level work of limited technical scope performing instrumentation and electronic equipment work assisting higher level technicians or supervisors in the installing, maintaining, testing and adjusting of a wide variety of meters, gauges, and other recording, regulating and controlling instruments.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
Learns to perform preventive maintenance, clean, flush, adjust, and lubricate analog and digital electronic, pneumatic, electric, and hydraulic instrumentation including distributed control units or multiprocessors.
Learns to calibrate digital, analog, pneumatic, electric and hydraulic instrumentation according to factory specifications and treatment process requirements; performs algebraic computations determining range of functions and correct correspondence with outputs and processes; sets up input, type of signals, and outputs.
Learns to inspect, adjust, troubleshoot and repair digital and analog electronically, pneumatically, electrically, and hydraulically activated meters, gauges, and other recording, regulating and controlling instruments; assists higher level technicians in more complex repairs; learns to use a variety of testing devices to diagnose and repair instrumentation, including manometers, timers, potentiometers, magmeters, multimeters, current loop generators, pressure gauges, digital and frequency counters, closed circuit TVs, laser fax machines, computers, air or water monitoring equipment, sirens, videophones, walkie-talkies, analog and digital electronics and other similar or related equipment.
Learns the protocols, standards, methods, hazards and safety precautions and proper use of tools and devices; learns to perform algebraic computations determining range of functions and correct correspondence with outputs and processes; sets up input, type of signals, and outputs.
Participates in routine training programs.
Fills out reports of work completed.
Performs related work as required.
