VOTING MACHINE SERVICE SUPERVISOR
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is administrative and supervisory work planning and coordinating the overall activities of a large staff of employees engaged in the storage, maintenance and repair of voting machines. A significant aspect of the work involves supervising through a subordinate supervisor, a large group of foremen, mechanics and helpers maintaining and repairing voting machines.
Work is performed under the direction of an administrative superior.
Assignments require analytical thinking and are carried out in accordance with precedents and well defined election conduct policies. An employee in this class has controlling responsibility for the storage, adjustment, maintenance and repair of the city's voting machines.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
- Through a subordinate supervisor plans the overall activities of a large group of employees engaged in the maintenance, repair, adjustment, storage and transport of voting machines.
- Maintains contact with printer printing ballot label inserts; arranges the ballot inserts to show the names of candidates in the prescribed sequence; inspects voting machines to insure that ballot inserts are properly placed.
- Outlines a planned program for the instruction of official election judges and inspectors in the proper operation of voting machines; gives instructions on the election laws and the proper operation of voting machines; gives instructions on the election laws and the proper conduct of elections; supervises the preparation of a payroll for the payment of judges and inspectors attending instruction meetings.
- Directs and plans the installation of voting machines at the designated voting polls during general, primary and special elections.
- Sets up a central field office to handle complaints received during the election regarding malfunctioning voting machines; supervises and dispatches mechanics on call for emergency field repair work of voting machines.
- Oversees the preparation and maintenance of records and reports; corresponds with election judges and inspectors on matters pertaining to election conduct.
- Requisitions tools, parts and materials used in the maintenance and repair of voting machines.
- Proposes budget requests to superior.
- Performs related work as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- the principles governing the operation of voting machines
- the methods, materials and tools used in the maintenance, adjustment and repair of voting machines
- the election laws of the State of Pennsylvania, especially as the laws relate to the conduct of elections
- modern office practices and methods
- the geography of the city
- supervisory methods and techniques
