CUSTODIAL WORK SUPERVISOR 2


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is second-level supervisory custodial work coordinating cleaning and general upkeep activities of public buildings and surrounding grounds. The work differs from the next lower level in this series in that the employee supervises a larger number of workers and has responsibility for more extended areas. A significant aspect of work involves scheduling and overseeing a large number of personnel engaged in cleaning and custodial tasks and responsibility for setting standards of cleanliness, and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment. Assignments are stable in nature and are carried out in accordance with standard practices and general work instructions. Work involves light physical effort and may be performed in inclement weather conditions. Work is performed under the supervision of a maintenance or administrative supervisor.


TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

Plans, assigns and reviews the work schedule of employees as prepared by subordinate custodial supervisors to ascertain that such factors as pedestrian traffic, hours of operation and work schedules of other units were considered in the preparation of the work schedule; confers with subordinate custodial supervisors on production, procedures, employee efficiency and other matters and takes necessary steps to correct inefficient or wasteful practices; directs and supervises activities related to the maintenance of grounds, such as grass seeding and mowing and hedge cutting.

Plans, schedules and coordinates activities to ensure services are provided in a timely and efficient manner; forecasts necessary levels of staffing to facilitate effective scheduling.

Tours work areas, such as offices, rooms and public access areas to inspect the cleanliness of floors, windows, bathroom facilities, furnishings and related apparatus; observes quality of work performed by custodial personnel and advises subordinate custodial supervisors of conditions which do not meet cleanliness standards.

Plans, reviews and revises training programs administered by subordinate supervisors to update cleaning techniques and procedures and introduce the use of new cleaning materials; plans programs for garbage and waste collection.

Periodically inspects custodial supply areas for cleanliness, orderliness and adequacy of supplies; conducts periodic inventories to determine supply consumption, to estimate needs, to prepare or direct the preparation of requisitions and to replenish needed supplies.

Inspects equipment requiring repairs and spot checks to insure minor repairs and adjustments on equipment are made as necessary.

Maintains records and prepares reports relating to personnel, supplies, equipment and other day-to-day operations.

Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions.

Performs related work as required.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES

Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment as an Custodial Work Supervisor 2, if required by work assignment.

Positions in the Airport must be able to pass and maintain SIDA (Security Identification Display Area) and AOA (Airfield Operations Area) clearance.
