This is supervisory custodial work above the Crew Chief level. Employees in this class have responsibility for coordinating cleaning and general upkeep activities for public buildings and surrounding grounds. A significant aspect of the work is the supervision of a moderately sized group of custodial staff and responsibility for setting standards of cleanliness, and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment. Assignments are stable in nature and are carried out in accordance with standard practices and general work instructions. Work involves physical effort and may be performed in inclement weather conditions. Work is performed under the supervision of a higher level custodial or maintenance supervisor.
Plans and assigns custodial duties to subordinates; tours work areas to determine cleaning needs; prepares a listing of areas needing attention and determines the size and composition of work crews; indicates to crews the tools and equipment necessary, and imparts any specialized instructions; instructs new employees in proper cleaning of floors, walls and furniture; conducts safety meetings.
Frequently inspects assigned area while work is being performed and upon completion to determine its quality; identifies unacceptable work and reinspects to make certain that corrective action is taken.
Reviews requests for materials, tools, equipment and supplies and prepares appropriate requisitions; makes minor repairs to vacuum cleaners and other machinery.
Maintains records and prepares reports relating to personnel, supplies, equipment, and day to day operations.
Performs related work as required.
Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
ANDTwo years of experience performing custodial and/or window washing work.
ANDOne year of experience as a Custodial Work Crew Chief.
ORAny equivalent combination of training and experience determined to be acceptable to the Office of Human Resources.
Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATESPossession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of appointment as an Custodial Work Supervisor 1, if required by work assignment.
Positions in the Airport must be able to pass and maintain SIDA (Security Identification Display Area) and AOA (Airfield Operations Area) clearance.
