AIRPORT INFORMATION SERVICES SUPERVISOR
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is public contact work supervising information and referral services on an assigned shift in the City's
metropolitan airport complex. Employees in this class plan, assign, review, and direct the activities of information
receptionists on an assigned shift, as part of the airport's public information program. Work includes the scheduling and
training of subordinate receptionists' work and monitoring their activities to ensure the provision of optimum information
and referral services to passengers and the general public. Employees work shifts on an as needed basis, which include
both day and evening hours and weekday and weekend shifts. Work is performed under the direction of a public relations
supervisor.
ALLOCATING FACTORS: (The following conditions must be met for a position to be approved for this class.)
- The position must be responsible for shift supervision of subordinate information receptionists at the City's
metropolitan airport complex.
- The position must be responsible for all information and referral services during their assigned shift.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
- Plans, assigns, reviews, and directs the activities of a shift of subordinate information receptionists engaged in
providing information and referral services to passengers and the general public at the City's metropolitan airport
complex; supervises the provision of such information as airport operations, facilities, and accommodations as well as
historical landmarks, rooming accommodations, transit facilities, and other matters of interest in the city; prepares weekly
work schedules for subordinate staff; plans and arranges duty coverage and overtime; trains newly hired receptionists in
the proper performance of their informational and referral service work; provides specific instructions to subordinates
and monitors their work ensuring optimum performance; points out problems and deficiencies and instructs on corrective
measures; initiates disciplinary action as appropriate.
- Tours the airport to observe performance of information receptionists; assigns subordinates to specific locations;
authorizes overtime to provide adequate coverage; maintains subordinate attendance and work records for payroll
purposes; keeps account of work activities to ensure efficient and effective record-keeping of subordinate performance;
participates in the updating of information resources and other assigned projects relating to the airport's
information program; serves on a 24 hour on-call basis, as assigned in emergency situations.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- English usage, grammar, rhetoric, punctuation, and spelling.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
(The following statement represents the minimum training
and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates
for this class will be reviewed based on training and experience requirements as approved on 5/95.)
EDUCATION:
- Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
AND
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
- Two years of experience in information/communications services work.
AND
SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:
- One year of experience in informational/communication services work at the City's metropolitan airport facility.
Or any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Personnel
Department which has included the specific experience described above.
NOTE: College coursework can be substituted for the general experience on a year for year basis.
PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this
class.
