L&I CODE ENFORCEMENT INSPECTOR 2

 

GENERAL DEFINITION

 

This is full performance level field work inspecting existing properties, which may include homes, business establishments, commercial/industrial establishments, residential buildings,  educational facilities, residential high rise buildings, mixed use properties and buildings with commercial uses.  Inspections of hazardous materials incidents are also a significant aspect of this position.  Inspections are performed to ensure conformance with property maintenance, zoning and fire codes as well as ordinances and regulations governing commercial and business activity throughout the city.  Interpreting pertinent sections of the applicable codes and ordinances and explaining violations to property owners, building managers, tenants, landlords, business owners and representatives of firms to facilitate compliance is a significant aspect of the work.  Work is performed under the supervision of a technical or administrative superior.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates for this class will be reviewed based on training and experience requirements as approved on 2/15.)

 

EDUCATION

 

Completion of the twelfth school grade or equivalent.

 

AND

 

CERTIFICATIONS

 

Certification in Hazardous Materials Awareness as recognized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

 

AND

 

Option 1

 

Certification by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Labor and Industry as a Fire Inspector 1.

 

OR

 

Option 2

 

Certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector.

 

AND

 

GENERAL EXPERIENCE

 

Two years of field inspectional or investigational work.

 

AND

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE

 

One year of experience performing field work  inspecting existing houses, business establishments, commercial/industrial establishments, residential buildings  or educational facilities for conformance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations.

 

OR

 

Any combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources.

 

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.

 

CLASSES THAT TYPICALLY MEET THESE REQUIREMENTS:

 

·         L&I Code Enforcement Inspector 1

·         Housing & Fire Inspector 2

 

 LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR CERTIFICATES

 

Possession of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment in this class.

Certification in Hazardous Materials Awareness as recognized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) within 30 days of the announcement closing date prior to appointment and during tenure of employment.

            Certification by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Labor and Industry as a Fire Inspector 1

 

OR

 

Certification by the International Code Council (ICC) as a Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector prior to appointment and during tenure of employment.
