HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM SUPERVISOR

 

GENERAL DEFINITION

 

This is administrative and supervisory education and promotion work planning and directing a comprehensive health education program. Employees in this class are responsible for the development and implementation of health education programs, including the dissemination of basic health information and methods of reducing the risk of acquiring a variety of communicable and sexually transmitted diseases. Work involves supervising a staff of employees who are responsible for providing health education and training to members of the community as well as staff in facilities which may provide a variety of services for persons with health problems including AIDS, drug addiction, communicable diseases and other health issues. A significant aspect of the work includes meetings and establishing rapport with City and local agencies, school board officials, community organizations and representatives from facilities providing a variety of services to the public at large. Work is performed under the direction of a technical superior.

 

ALLOCATING FACTORS: (The following conditions must be met for a position to be allocated to this class.)

 

·       The position must supervise the activities of a staff engaged in the provision of health education training.

·       The position must be located in the Health Department.

ABILITY TO:

 

 

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE           (The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates for this class will be reviewed based on training and experience requirements as approved on 5/24.)

 

EDUCATION:

 

Completion of a master's degree program at an accredited college or university with major course work in education, health education, or a related field.

 

NOTE: Completion of an industry related certification or additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year for year basis.

 

AND

GENERAL EXPERIENCE:

 

Two years of experience in a public health agency or program developing and implementing assigned phases of an education and/or information program.

 

AND

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE:

 

Two years of full performance level experience preparing and conducting community health education programs in an operations or administrative capacity.

 

OR

 

Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources.

 

PHYSICAL AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
