DEPUTY SHERIFF LIEUTENANT


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is court security and enforcement work at the second supervisory level. An employee in this class supervises a staff of lower level deputy sheriffs engaged either in transporting prisoners and maintaining courtroom security, or serving legal documents and executing a variety of civil and criminal court orders in an assigned city district. The supervision through subordinates of a staff of lower level deputy sheriffs and the establishment of effective working relationships with court officials are significant aspects of the work.

Work is performed under the general supervision of a higher level deputy sheriff. Assignment requires the use of evaluative thinking and are carried out in accordance with precedents and well-defined policies. The employees participate with others in providing court security and enforcement services.
