ASSISTANT HEALTH COMMISSIONER


GENERAL DEFINITION.

This is health services administrative work directing the implementation and operation of all health programs and services carried out by a large multi-disciplinary staff in two or more major divisions of the Department of Public Health. Employees in this class direct and supervise a large staff of administrative, professional and technical employees and are responsible for formulating program initiatives, establishing standards and developing professional and administrative policies and procedures for their respective areas of responsibility. Establishing cooperative working relationships with health care institutions, government officials, public and private funding sources, social service agencies, mental health agencies, members of the judicial system, law enforcement agencies, and community groups is a major aspect of the work. Work is performed under the general direction of an administrative superior.
