CHIEF STREET LIGHTING ENGINEER


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is administrative engineering work directing a city-wide street lighting and energy management program. Work includes the engineering management of street lighting installation and maintenance activities through subordinate supervisors and outside contractors. The employee in this class is responsible for the review and approval of street lighting designs prepared by subordinate engineering staff and private consulting engineers and architects, and the preparation of street lighting installation and maintenance contracts for work performed by outside contractors. Performing duties as the departmental energy director, developing policy statements on electrical energy and lighting issues, reviewing and approving monthly electrical utility power bills and developing and recommending proposals to refine operating procedures in order to increase productivity and reduce operating costs are significant aspects of the work. Work is performed under the general direction of the Chief Engineer and Surveyor.

OR

Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Personnel Department that has included a bachelor's degree in Engineering as an educational minimum and the specific experience.
