This is architectural work at the full performance level performing specific project assignments in either general building design or landscape design. An employee in this class conducts design studies, determines site requirements, and performs assigned project work in a timely, efficient, and cost effective manner. Monitoring finished work for adherence to quality standards is a significant aspect of the work. Work is performed under the direction of a higher-level architect/engineering supervisor.
ALLOCATING FACTORS: (The following conditions must be met for a position to be allocated to this class.)
1. The employee must perform full performance architectural project coordination work in either general Building/Site Design or Landscape Design specialties.

BOTH SPECIALTIES
Makes design studies of site improvements for the design program by formulating spatial and functional relationships of major spaces, by analyzing applicable systems, processes and site requirements, and by selecting appropriate materials based upon budget, maintenance, and aesthetic considerations.
Prepares schematic designs, graphics, drawings and cost estimates.
Prepares preliminary designs, graphics, drawings and cost estimates.
Prepares final designs, graphics, drawings, contract specifications, and cost estimates.
Conducts general administration and inspection of construction work.
May prepare presentation graphics, drawings, build models, perform surveys, and secure permits.
Performs related work as required.
Performs field surveys of proposed new project construction sites or existing facilities and areas being considered for renovation; determines soil composition, drainage patterns, area shape and contour; determines type and location of trees and shrubs; selects type of materials to be used, such as fencing, sculpture, stone, brick, padding, and asphaltic compositions, to maximize user safety, facility durability, and budgetary limits.
Reviews and participates in design studies of site improvements and/or building construction or renovation work; represents the Capital Program Office at public meetings and conferences with other City departments and governmental agencies; monitors design, construction, and post-construction work for achieving design, budget, and scheduling objectives.
KNOWLEDGE OF:

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (The following statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Applications submitted by candidates for this class will be reviewed based on training and experience requirements as approved on 5/18.)
BUILDING/SITE DESIGN
EDUCATION:
Completion of a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university, with major course work in architecture or architectural engineering.
AND
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
One year of experience performing professional architectural work in the preparation of plans, designs and specifications for architectural projects.
Two years of experience performing professional architectural work with responsibility for completing assigned projects in building design within time and budgetary requirements.
LANDSCAPE DESIGN SPECIALTY
Completion of a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited college or university, with major course work in landscape architecture.
AND
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
One year of experience performing professional landscape architectural work in the preparation of plans, designs and specifications for landscape design projects.
Two years of experience performing professional landscape architectural work with responsibility for completing assigned projects in landscape design within time and budgetary requirements.
Any equivalent combination of acceptable education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Office of Human Resources, which has included the completion of a bachelor’s degree program in an acceptable area and the specific experience described above as a minimum.
NOTE: Advanced course work in architecture, architectural engineering or landscape architecture beyond the bachelor's degree as stated above may be substituted for the general experience for both specialties.
Ability to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental conditions required of a position in this class.
