ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER 1

 (Air Management)

(Sanitary)

GENERAL DEFINITION

This is environmental engineering work at the intermediate level, conducting studies and evaluating methods to improve the effectiveness of water quality and treatment or the management of air hazards.  Employees in the Sanitary specialty are responsible for researching and evaluating the efficiency of water or wastewater treatment methods, the effects of urbanization on receiving streams, or the impact of the stormwater and combined sewer discharges on receiving water bodies.  Employees in the Air Management speciality investigate and evaluate environmental health hazards such as air or noise pollution sources, sources of radiation and other pollutant emissions. Employees in this class are given progressively more difficult assignments and are expected to use progressively more independent judgment when making technical recommendations.  Work is performed under the supervision of a technical superior.
