WORD PROCESSING SPECIALIST 2


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is full performance level clerical and word processing work utilizing word processing software and other personal computer applications. Employees in this class prepare and finalize document materials such as correspondence, memorandums, reports, forms, legal materials and other documents. Work also includes performing general clerical support duties, and may include setting work priorities for others based upon familiarity with department needs and proceŽdures. Employees work under the supervision of a clerical or technical superior.

  1. Employees in this class must use perform clerical duties and utilize word processing software and computerized applications to prepare and finalize documents.


TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

Prepares and finalizes documents using a personal computer and word processing software; types from drafts, transcripts or preprinted material.

Types short narratives such as memos, letters, descriptive information on forms; types extended narrative such as reports, legal documents and articles often involving technical terms and usages; types reports, charts, business, or technical data with numbers; compiles information and type from more than one source; proofs work; revises and corrects drafts using word processing editing features.

Uses software programs to access, sort, merge and/or update data or documents; combines packaged programs to accomplish desired functions; uses machine and software capacities to process and sort records; uses desk references to resolve questions of grammar, punctuation, spelling, business format and proper diction; reads rough copy in order to resolve questions of meaning, order and accuracy; corrects errors; codes, classifies, files, retrieves and maintain materials in manual and automated filing systems;

Revises previously typed work by making corrections; types material of special confidentiality; may train new employees; proofs work of others; in absence of supervisor, sets priorities and coordinates work to meet deadlines or to even load.

May perform such tasks as opening and directing mail, receiving visitors, answering telephones, filing material, scheduling appointments and meetings, photocopying, and other office support and secretarial functions.

Performs related work as required.
