WORD PROCESSING SPECIALIST 1


GENERAL DEFINITION

This is clerical and word processing work utilizing word processing software and other personal computer applications. Employees in this class prepare and finalize materials such as correspondence, memorandums, reports, forms, legal materials and other documents. The work also includes performing clerical duties requiring the use of judgment in selecting which of several alternative courses of action to take based on a standard procedure and/or in following through with several procedures to complete a clerical process. Employees work under the supervision of a clerical or technical superior.

  1. Employees in this class must perform clerical duties and utilize the personal computer to perform word processing and other personal computer applications.


TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)

Types letters, memos, descriptive information on forms, reports, legal documents and articles often involving extended narrative, technical terms and usage, using word processing software or other personal computer applications; types from drafts, dictated transcripts, roughs or preprinted material; makes changes in original documents such as reformatting and integrating other data; may prepare reports, charts, business or technical data with numbers; compiles information and type from more than one source; proofs work; revises and corrects drafts using machine editing features.

Ensures there are no grammar, punctuation or spelling errors, proofs for proper business format and proper diction; reads rough copy in order to resolve questions of meaning, order, accuracy; corrects errors; formats documents for best outcome

Revises previously typed work by making corrections; codes, classifies, files, retrieves, and maintains materials in manual and automated filing systems; prepares and maintains production logs.

May perform such tasks as receiving visitors, answering telephones, and filing material and other office support functions.

Performs related work as required.
