FLEET
STORES WORKER
GENERAL DEFINITION
This is full performance stores work receiving,
storing, issuing and ordering materials, automotive, marine parts, supplies and
a variety of items for the Office of Fleet Management. Employees perform a
storekeeping function in a Fleet departmental stores area. Work involves medium
to heavy physical effort and may entail unpleasant working conditions.
Employees are supervised by a Fleet Stores Supervisor.
ALLOCATING
FACTORS: (The following conditions must be met for a position to be allocated
to this class.)

positions must be located in the Office of Fleet Management

Employees
in this position must perform shipping, receiving, and delivery functions for
Fleet automotive items and equipment.
TYPICAL EXAMPLES OF WORK (ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY)
Ordering,
Receiving, and Storing Inventory
- Receives
and stores automotive parts and materials in a Fleet storeroom
- Unloads
and receives items for storage or distribution;
- Visually
inspects, unpacks, counts, and verifies all assigned storeroom delivery
items for invoice accuracies and damages
- Monitors
and tracks stock levels
- Orders
materials, equipment, parts and supplies
- Completes
the work order billing and tracking process for unit down orders and issues
the item(s) to the requester
- Completes
the tracking and barcode labeling process for regular stock items
- Checks
prices, fills and files requisitions for principally assigned storeroom(s)
as required
- Contacts
vendors to expedite deliveries
- Performs
physical inventory counts
- Compiles
information in a computerized system that measures minimum and maximum
item storage levels
- Confers
with maintenance staff in relation to parts needed
- Prepares
cost estimates of parts
- Keeps
storeroom area clean and stores received items in designated areas
- Maintains
the security of the stockroom and/or warehouse
- Accounts
for and keeps a computerized log of all items on order, on shelves, and in
transit to other shop units for future reference and for reports compiled
by Fleet Stores Supervisors
Shipping
Inventory
- Picks
up and delivers Fleet automotive items and equipment as needed
- Identifies
parts requested using diagrams, schematics, parts manuals and catalogs, or
by accessing inventory, parts data or other information through the use of
a computer terminal
- May
use fork lifts, electric or manually controlled hand trucks, dollies, or
relative elevator equipment in the receipt, issuance, transport or removal
of parts and materials
- Identifies
automotive parts and equipment materials through the use of catalogs,
vendor listings, or computer systems
- May
perform duties under the supervision of stores or non-stores supervisory
personnel
- May be
responsible for performing Fleet Stores Worker job duties at multiple
storerooms and shops designated as Tier II, III and IV
- Schedules
and returns damaged or incorrect items to vendors
- Drives
city owned vehicles to and from vendors and Fleet sites for parts pick-ups
and drop-offs
- Places
orders for materials, parts and equipment
- Performs
related work as required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- principles and practices
of receiving, storing and issuing materials, supplies and equipment

for the types of vehicles in the city fleet of vehicles
- the use of a variety of
materials, automotive related parts, and supplies

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (The following
statement represents the minimum training and experience standards which will
be used to admit or reject applicants for tests. Applications submitted by
candidates for this class will be reviewed based on training and experience
requirements as approved on 12/10.)
EDUCATION
- Completion
of the twelfth school grade.
AND
EXPERIENCE
- Two
years of experience receiving, storing, issuing or ordering automotive or
truck equipment, materials, parts and supplies in a computerized parts
inventory environment.
NOTE: Current certification by the
National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in the automotive
parts specialty area may be substituted for the general experience requirement.
PHYSICAL
AND MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability
to physically perform the duties and to work in the environmental
conditions required of a position in this class.
LICENSES,
REGISTRATIONS, AND/OR CERTIFICATES
- Possession
of a valid proper class motor vehicle operator's license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania prior to appointment and during tenure of employment as
a Fleet Stores Worker if required by work assignment.
