Office of Homeless Services

Providing emergency housing and other services to people who are homeless and to those at risk of homelessness.

Office of Homeless Services

What we do

The Office of Homeless Services works with more than 60 homeless housing and service providers, as well as city, state, and federal governments. Together, we make up Philadelphia’s homeless service system.

This system provides homelessness prevention and diversion aid, as well as emergency and temporary housing, to people who are experiencing homelessness and those at risk of homelessness.

Philly Needs You: Be a 2025 PIT Count Volunteer!

The Office of Homeless Services is looking for volunteers to survey and count people in Philadelphia who are experiencing homelessness and living outdoors on a single night during the City’s 2025 Point In Time (PIT) Count on Wednesday, January 22, 2025.

Why PIT Count and Your Help Are Important

  • The U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires this annual count on a single night in January.
  • The survey answers that your team collects will help the City of Philadelphia and HUD learn:
    • Who is experiencing unsheltered homelessness, how, and why.
    • Where people are staying and for how long.
    • What types of services people want and need.
    • Whether the strategies we are using and our efforts to end homelessness are working.

How You Can Help

  • Sign up as a PIT Count Team Leader, Counter, Youth and Young Adult Guide or Event Logistics volunteer today.
  • Join us at a special PIT Count kick-off event on Jan. 22 before the Count at the Pennsylvania Convention Center with light bites, beverages, inspiring speakers, your team meet-up and more! You’ll also get your own official 2025 PIT Count beanie!
