Whether you live, work, or visit Manayunk, we want to learn more about your experiences in the neighborhood and how we can direct its future! The Philadelphia City Planning Commission will work with community groups to update the Manayunk Neighborhood Commercial Area Overlay District. Our goal is to support the neighborhood’s evolving needs while ensuring it remains vibrant.
What is a Neighborhood Commercial Area Overlay?
Neighborhood Commercial Area Overlays (NCA) districts intend to preserve the integrity of neighborhood commercial areas and guide commercial development that is appropriate for its neighborhood. The Manayunk NCA covers four areas around Main Street and Venice Island. Building height, setback, parking, and landscape regulations are all things the NCA can regulate. These regulations help new development blend into the existing character of the neighborhood. The goal is to promote growth that is in harmony with the area’s unique identity. Specific regulations of the Manayunk NCA can be found in the Philadelphia Code.
Why are we changing the Manayunk NCA?
The character of Manayunk’s built environment is changing. There is new development, shifting demographics, and a growing desire for more modern amenities while preserving the small-town character. Updating the Manayunk NCA regulations give the community the opportunity to meet Manayunk’s current needs and address what’s missing on the commercial corridor.
How can I get involved?
We are committed to listening to residents, businesses, and other stakeholders as we draft these changes to the Manayunk NCA. We want to know what amenities you want to see in Manayunk and how we can help improve your experience.
