As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, you will spend one full year building capacity for a project designed to reduce the impact of poverty in Philadelphia. Goals include access to affordable housing, food security, quality education, and more!

Here is a sampling of projects included in this year’s lineup:

  • The City College for Municipal Employment’s (CCME) VISTA will research, identify, and support pathways into City jobs for special populations of high need in Philadelphia including adult education, re-entry, and youth.
  • To improve youth literacy, the Read by the 4th VISTA with the Free Library of Philadelphia will develop a parent council and family workshops in multiple languages to directly engage community members closest to the problem. They will coordinate with grassroot volunteers who are already supporting early literacy skills in their community.
  • The Data and Outcomes VISTA will leverage data as a tool for the Office of Victim Advocate to illustrate disparities, develop solutions, and reduce trauma for individuals and neighborhoods experiencing violence.

All VISTAs receive a modest financial support package to sustain them during the service year, in addition to robust professional development programming and support from the Serve Philadelphia VISTA program. VISTAs also have access to networking opportunities within their City department. You can read more about the program benefits and available projects.

You must submit your application along with your top project choices by April 30, 2025. Contact us at ServeVISTA@phila.gov with any questions during the process.
