In 2022, developers suggested building a new Sixers arena in Center City. With support from the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC), the City of Philadelphia hired experts to study how this arena might affect the community, economy, traffic, and public spaces.
After reviewing these studies and listening to community members, Mayor Cherelle L. Parker announced on September 18, 2024, a historic agreement to build the arena in Center City.
To make this happen, the City has submitted 11 ordinances and resolutions for City Council to vote on. These must be approved by a majority of the council for the arena to move forward. The drafts of these documents are ready but haven’t been officially introduced in a City Council meeting yet.
At the request of City Council, these documents are being shared here for 30 days. Please note that ordinances and resolutions may also be called “bills” or “legislation” before they become law.
A presentation and overview of the agreement can be found here.
