Monday, September 16: National HBCU Week Conference
The National Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Week Conference is being held in Philadelphia for the first time, and Mayor Parker was there to welcome attendees and kick off the festivities. As a proud HBCU graduate of Lincoln University, Mayor Parker spoke about how HBCUs provide students with the tools to succeed in their careers, teaching self-sufficiency, self-reliance and problem-solving skills, as well the true bond the HBCU community has together.
Tuesday, September 17: Bond Buyer Infrastructure Conference
Tuesday evening, Mayor Parker spoke at the Bond Buyer Infrastructure Conference, a gathering of public finance professionals to network, discuss and debate the future of the country’s infrastructure. Mayor Parker was proud to share that Philadelphia has its highest combination of credit ratings in more than 40 years, showing a priority to improve the City’s fiscal health, while also highlighting critical investments being made across the City.
Wednesday, September 18: State of the Airport
In fact, PHL International Airport is one place where part of these critical infrastructure investments are being made. At the State of the Airport event on Wednesday morning, Mayor Parker went more in depth on what enhancements are coming, in what will be a pivotal two plus years for the Airport. Philadelphia will be in the National spotlight leading up to 2026 and America’s 250 Celebration, and PHL will be the vital gateway welcoming people to the City. Investments to cargo facilities, sustainability, job creation and increases into new flights and destinations are just some of the improvements being made at PHL.
Wednesday, September 18: Center City Arena Announcement
Wednesday afternoon, Mayor Parker released a video on her social media accounts, announcing that an agreement has been reached with the Philadelphia 76ers for their proposal to build a new stadium in Center City. Legislation will be presented to City Council where the proposal will then be put to a vote at a later date. A formal presentation, as well as a series of town hall events will be forthcoming.
