Bicyclists and pedestrians should be advised of detoured routes for trail access

PHILADELPHIA – Department of Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi announced that the electric gates at the Race Street railroad crossing to the Schuylkill River Trail have malfunctioned, making the crossing unsafe for users. The gates were closed on Wednesday, July 3, and will remain closed until repairs can be made. Repairs are scheduled to begin the week of July 8.

The following are alternatives for access to the cycling and pedestrian trail:

  • Access ramp at Market Street
  • Access point on Martin Luther King Drive across from the Art Museum
  • Stairs at Walnut Street
  • Pedestrian bridge in Schuylkill River Park, at Locust Street and points south

For the duration of the closure, Department of Streets crews are dedicated to minimizing the inconvenience to affected commuters. The Department of Streets values residents’ patience and cooperation during this time.
