PHILADELPHIA— Streets Commissioner Kristin Del Rossi announced today that the Roosevelt Boulevard, Adams Avenue and Summerdale Avenue Intersection Safety Improvement Project will undergo traffic signal configuration upgrades on the morning and afternoon of Saturday June 8, weather permitting. Two phases of temporary street closures will be implemented throughout the day to configure the new traffic signals at the intersection. It is expected that the new traffic signal configuration will be fully operationally by Saturday night.

Beginning at 5a.m. on Saturday, the contractor will be implementing two phases of temporary street closures using the assistance of City Traffic Police, detour signs and variable message boards:

Phase 1:

  • Roosevelt Boulevard NB & SB Outer Lanes will be completely closed. NB & SB Inner Lanes will remain open to through traffic.
  • Through WB traffic along Adams Avenue will be completely closed through the Roosevelt Boulevard intersection. Detour signs will be used to direct traffic from Adams to Ramona Street and back to Roosevelt Boulevard.
  • Through EB traffic along Summerdale Avenue will be completely closed through the Roosevelt Boulevard intersection.  Detour signs will be used to direct traffic from Summerdale to Pratt Street and back to Roosevelt Boulevard.

Phase 2:

  • Roosevelt Boulevard NB & SB Inner Lanes will be completely closed. NB & SB Outer Lanes will remain open to through traffic.
  • Through WB traffic along Adams Avenue will be completely closed through the Roosevelt Boulevard intersection. Detour signs will be used to direct traffic from Adams to Ramona Street and back to Roosevelt Boulevard.
  • Through EB traffic along Summerdale Avenue will be completely closed through Roosevelt Boulevard intersection. Detour signs will be used to direct traffic from Summerdale to Pratt Street and back to Roosevelt Boulevard.

The work involves switching over from the old traffic signal equipment to the newly installed traffic signal equipment and removing the old equipment at the intersection. This is a crucial step in improving motorist and pedestrian safety and aligns with the City’s Vision Zero Goals, emphasizing its significance in our ongoing efforts to create safer streets for everyone.

This work is being completed by James J. Anderson Construction.  Overall project construction costs are valued about $4.5M and are being financed with PennDOT State Grants.

While the Streets Department will make every effort to minimize disruption to traffic, residents are urged to plan ahead and use alternative routes or allow for increased travel times when traveling in these areas.  The Streets Department thanks residents in advance for their patience and cooperation as we work to improve city streets
