PHILADELPHIA – Mayor Cherelle L. Parker today extended the deadline to submit applications for the Board of Education, from Friday, February 16 to Friday, February 23, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. The City’s Chief Education Officer, Dr. Debora Carrera released the following statement regarding the extended deadline:
“The Board of Education carries enormous influence over the success and direction of our schools,” said Dr. Debora Carrera, Chief Education Officer. “Extending the deadline to submit applications is necessary to ensure we leave no stone unturned and give every interested and qualified Philadelphian the opportunity to serve their community and students. This administration is working tirelessly to share the application far and wide, so an extension was only logical to secure an expansive and experienced pool of applicants to consider for the Board.”
The Educational Nominating Panel will convene for its second public meeting on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, where they will announce a list of 27 candidates for the Mayor to consider for nine seats on the Board. Members of the community will have the opportunity to register for public comment at the meeting. Registration for public comment will be available starting Monday, March 4 at 12 p.m. online here.
