Grab your swimsuit! It’s time to be “phreezein’ for a reason!” The second annual Philly Phreeze is a one-day-only winter pool plunge. The event supports aquatics programming and lifeguard recruitment. It returns to Kelly Pool on February 24, 2024. The fun takes place from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Last year’s inaugural event raised $70,000 to support end-of-summer bonuses of up to $1000 for City lifeguards.

Over 150 dedicated Philadelphians braved the icy waters to ensure that all Philadelphia’s 60+ public pools opened safely. To open all our available pools, Parks & Rec needs 400 lifeguards!

Individuals who fundraise at least $50 can join their neighbors to take the plunge for Philly pools.

Here are five reasons to be part of the Philly Phreeze pool plunge:

  1. Support Philadelphia public pools by helping to recruit lifeguards.
  2. The Philly Phreeze supports pool programming and end-of-summer bonuses of up to $1000 for lifeguards.
  3. Socialize with friends! What better way to bond with friends than plunging into water that is 38°F and below!
  4. Bragging rights!  You dared to brave the “phreezing” waters. You are one of the few, the proud, and the brave.
  5. You won’t need your daily cup of joe. You will feel refreshed, energized and alert after your plunge.
