Philadelphia Department of Prisons Reports Death of Incarcerated Person

PHILADELPHIA — On November 30, 2023, an incarcerated person was fatally assaulted by a cellmate while in custody in the Curran-Fromhold Correctional Facility.

Correctional staff was present in the housing unit and responded to the cell and notified medical staff who administered CPR. The individual was pronounced dead at 4:35 a.m.

“The Department of Prisons strives to provide a safe, lawful and secure correctional environment, and we are working with the Philadelphia Police Department to investigate this incident,” said Prisons Commissioner Blanche Carney.
