Providing vital medications for more than 80,000 patients a year
The Health Department’s division of Ambulatory Health Services runs a closed pharmacy system, offering primarily generic medications to Health Center patients. AHS purchases these drugs at a reduced rate through the federal government’s 340B Program, which allows patients to receive necessary medications vital to maintaining their health.
The Director of Pharmacy ensures that the nine pharmacies fill same-day prescriptions for nearly 80,000 patients treated annually at City Health Centers. The Pharmacy Team, including pharmacy managers, pharmacists and medical clerks with pharmacy specialties, fill more than 170,000 prescriptions annually.
The Pharmacy staff also work with the Division of Disease Control and played a vital role in the Afghan Repatriation Program at the Philadelphia International Airport.
