June 30 is the last day to pay your 2023 Commercial Trash Fee (formerly the Refuse Collection Fee). The fee is $500 and covers weekly trash pick-up by the City for the entire year. You must pay this fee if you use the City’s trash and recycling service for your small business, multi-unit, or mixed-use property.

We recently mailed bills to customers who still owe this year’s trash collection fee. Keep an eye on your mailbox if you made an initial $250 payment in December 2022, and be sure to complete your second payment of $250 by June 30.

The quickest way to pay is online – here are the steps:

  • Go to tax-services.phila.gov.
  • Find the “Payments” panel on the Philadelphia Tax Center’s homepage and select “Make a payment.”
  • Under “Payment options,” pick “Yes” to pay a bill you just received. Use the Letter ID found at the top of your bill to pay this fee online. Be aware that your trash bills will not have a notice number from now on.
  • Otherwise, choose “No” on this same screen and use the dropdown menu to select “Commercial Trash Fees.” Follow the on-screen instructions to submit your payment.

Find your balance online

If your bill is delayed or lost, you can still find your balance on the Philadelphia Tax Center without creating a username or password. Just search your property using the “Property” panel on the site’s front page and follow the prompts to find your property and pay any pending balances. Remember, not paying this fee on time can result in extra charges.

While you don’t need to be logged in to pay bills on the Philadelphia Tax Center, you should consider creating a username or password if you own or manage multiple properties. This way, you can access and manage all your property accounts from the same screen. For example, you’ll see all balances on your properties from a single dashboard. You can also switch accounts without signing in and out.

Other ways to pay

If you would rather pay this fee in person, don’t hesitate to visit the Municipal Services Building (MSB) in Center City or our Northeast satellite office. Please remember that we don’t accept Visa cards for this type of transaction. But you can use your card to pay online.

You can also mail in your payment to this address:

Philadelphia Dept. of Revenue
P.O. Box 966
Philadelphia, PA 19102-966

While some smaller properties qualify for City trash collection for a fee, most multi-unit and large commercial properties in Philadelphia must hire a private trash hauling service. If you use a private trash collection service, you don’t pay the $500 fee, but you must fill out and return the Commercial Trash Fee Exemption form and receive a 100% waiver. You must also include a copy of your current trash service agreement from a licensed hauler.
