PHILADELPHIA – The Hunting Park Ave tunnel, between Kelly Dr and Indiana Ave (under Ridge Ave), is closed to all traffic, Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced today.  The closure will be in place indefinitely until repairs to the Laurel Hill Cemetery Bridge on Hunting Park Ave can be made. The following detour is being shared for traveling motorists: 

Northbound Kelly Drive: 

  • Continue straight on Kelly Dr 
  • Turn Right on to Ferry Dr 
  • Turn Right onto Ridge Ave 
  • Turn Left onto Allegheny Ave 
Southbound Kelly Drive:
  • Turn Left onto Ferry Dr 
  • Turn Right onto Ridge Ave 
  • Turn Left onto Allegheny Ave
 Eastbound Hunting Park Ave 
  • Stay in the Right Lane on Hunting Park Ave 
  • Turn Left onto Ridge Ave 
  • Turn Right onto 33rd St.

The closure is necessary as stones from the arch of the bridge were pulled down by an oversized truck. The Streets Department inspected the bridge. It was determined to be structurally sound. Out of abundance of caution the road will remain closed until the area where the stones have fallen is properly secured so as not to cause injury to vehicular traffic.
