Philadelphia Department of Public Health resource hubs are located in five neighborhoods throughout the city. Through a partnership with the Division of HIV Health, the hubs provide free at-home HIV test kits for Philadelphia residents. No appointment is required to visit a resource hub.

Who is eligible to pick up a test kit?

  • Must be a Philadelphia resident
  • Must be 17 years or older
  • Cannot have received a test kit within the last 3 months

What information will I need to provide?

Visitors requesting an at-home HIV test kit will be asked to provide a few pieces of confidential information. Resource hub staff are trained and prepared to collect this information in a confidential setting. Staff will not ask for proof of insurance.

What comes with the test kit?

Each kit contains one OraQuick In-Home HIV Test. Two informational cards are provided along with the kit. These provide information on next steps after a test result is received, along with guidance on how to interpret the result.

Should I get tested for HIV?

The CDC recommends that everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 get tested for HIV at least once as part of routine health checks, and those at high risk get tested at least once a year. The Philadelphia Department of Public Health recommends testing and re-testing people at increased vulnerability for HIV and STI exposure every 3 months. Sexually active gay and bisexual men may benefit from more frequent testing (every 3 to 6 months).
