Starting in Fall of 2022, rec centers with gyms across the city started opening their doors on Saturdays and Sundays. More than 50 rec centers now offer sports leagues, open gym, and free and low cost programming for youth and teens 7 days a week! Philadelphians of all ages, across the city can spend every day with Parks & Rec. Here are a few events we’d suggest to plan your perfect weekend with Parks & Rec!

Friday nights are for dancing! Join the hip-hop dance program at East Poplar Playground.

Do you “Just Wanna Rock”? Then East Poplar Playground’s co-ed hip-hop dance program is perfect for you! Join friends to practice and learn the latest hip-hop dance moves and songs. This program is currently accepting participants ages 8-17. Sign up or stop by and get your groove on! Learn more about the program here.

Join a “League of Legends” at Christy Recreation Center! Get your game on at Christy’s Esports Room.

Play as your hometown 76ers and Eagles in NBA2k or Madden at Christy Recreation Center. Gaming chairs, headsets, and the latest consoles are fitted out to allow budding Esports professionals and casual gamers to practice and play. The Esports room is perfect for individual play, group play with friends, and even hosting the occasional tournament. Get in the ring at Kingsessing Rec Center’s Boxing Program!

From the larger-than-life Rocky Balboa and Adonis Creed, to city legends like Joe Frazier and Bernard Hopkins, boxing is an essential part of Philadelphia’s culture. On Saturdays, at Kingsessing Recreation Center, youth ages 8-17 train with the best to become the best as a part of the rec center’s Youth Boxing Club. Get buckets 7 days a week at open gyms across the City!

For some, ball is life, and that doesn’t stop on the weekends. Now, more than 50 Parks & Rec gyms across the city have open gym hours on weekends. Stop by and get a run in. No matter where you live in the city, there are free indoor and outdoor basketball courts available for you to practice your jumper on the weekends. Learn more and find gyms here.
