April is National Volunteer Month, and the City of Philadelphia is thanking all volunteers who give the gift of time and service to our communities.

We’re celebrating with a daily volunteer spotlight! Each day on social media, we’re sharing the story of a volunteer or national service member making an impact in Philadelphia.

Learn about our featured volunteers for April 1 – 7 below:

Derrick Howie

Derrick is a volunteer leader with the Fairmount Park Conservancy, where his energy and passion for improving public green spaces are an inspiration to others. Derrick has made an impact across the entire Fairmount Park system through his volunteer service and talent for collaboration.

Frank Knorr

Frank has been volunteering with Share Food Philly each week since 2022. His strong work ethic is invaluable, and he’s willing to do whatever tasks are needed to help Share Food achieve their mission of fighting hunger in the Philadelphia region.

Lauren Hoffarth

Lauren recently completed a year of service as an AmeriCorps VISTA with the City of Philadelphia. After her term of service, Lauren became a VISTA Supervisor for the Department of Health and Human Services. As a supervisor, she has been a great coach and mentor to other VISTAs completing a year of service.

Angel Gatlin

Angel has volunteered with the Bethesda Project for four years. She has made a huge impact serving meals, staffing tables at events, and more! Angel treats guests with dignity and respect, no matter their background or circumstances, and provides a sense of family for those who have none.

Cheyanne Smith

Cheyanne is an AmeriCorps member serving with the DREAM program. She leads a group of fellow After School Enrichment coordinators, connects families with resources, offers free tutoring sessions, and plans activities and adventures for the program. Cheyanne is passionate about the DREAM community and goes above and beyond to make sure families feel heard and supported.

Wilson Quilli

Wilson is a dedicated young leader who has volunteered with Feast of Justice for more than two years. He works with integrity and reliability to support Feast of Justice’s Choice Market Food Pantry. Wilson enjoys connecting with the community in English and Spanish and helps each person to feel recognized, valued, and heard.
