The 28th Annual Greater Philadelphia Martin Luther King Day of Service will take place on Monday, January 16, 2023. What better way to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr. than by lending a hand in a service project? The 2023 Day of Service theme is Gun Violence Prevention. Philadelphia Parks & Recreation and our partners are proud to participate in this year’s event.

Revitalize Our Rec Project

Help us revitalize our Rec. Create good vibes and make more memories. Let your creativity and positivity be your activism. Help keep the center a safe, secure, and clean space for today’s youth. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s Legacy, volunteers will revitalize the center. Some of the projects include  

  • Organizing.
  • Cleaning.
  • Painting.  

Work will begin at 11 a.m. Participants can sign in, snack and socialize before the event. Attendees will receive a light breakfast and a boxed lunch. Register for this event.  

Renew & Protect 2023 MLK Day Event

Parks & Rec invite you to register for our Martin Luther King, Jr. Renew & Protect event. Come help refresh our center by  

  • Removing weeds and debris. 
  • Painting the center’s walls. 
  • protecting the greens by covering soil.

King Day Cleanup at Finley Recreation Center

Help us honor Dr. King’s legacy. Help Parks and Rec create a gaming area for today’s youth. Volunteers will help do general maintenance throughout the building. Register for this event.    

Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service in Wissahickon Valley Park

Friends of the Wissahickon – Exact location will be emailed.  

Help make the Wissahickon a more beautiful and healthier watershed. Come clean up litter around the bridges that connect Forbidden Drive to the bike path. No experience is needed. Friends of Wissahickon will provide gloves, tools and instruction. Volunteer service days are excellent, easy ways to help us take care of the park. Register for this event.
