Philadelphia Parks & Recreation athletic fields are available for practices and games for youth sports. To reserve a City field, you need to apply for a permit. The permit application is free for local youth sports teams.
Here is a step-by-step process on how to apply for a permit:
- Pick the athletic field where you would like to hold a game or practice. Use our finder tool to locate a field.
- Contact the site supervisor at that location to submit an application in person.
- Receive approval from the supervisor.
- Receive the permit in the mail.
Approval is given based on:
- Field availability.
- Field readiness.
- Returning user policy.
Availability
When fields are in high demand, Parks & Rec prioritizes permit requests. Priority is given to Philadelphia-area youth sports organizations and returning permit holders. Returning permit holders have the “right of first refusal.” This means they have the first opportunity to re-apply for the spaces, days, and times they received a permit for the previous year.
These guidelines ensure the application process is fair and equitable. When multiple teams apply for the same field, site supervisors work with applicants to find a solution that works for all. This includes:
- Sharing field time.
- Finding another suitable field.
- Switching up schedules.
Youth sports teams need access to athletic fields in Philadelphia. Parks & Rec works to make the permit process open and supportive.
